LS Electric, a South Korean manufacturer of power and automation systems, is looking to expand its presence in Vietnam’s energy sector.
Its chairman and CEO, Koo Ja-kyun, visited Hanoi on July 14 to meet with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and discuss opportunities in smart grids, HVDC, and battery storage.
opportunities in smart grid, high-voltage direct current (HVDC), and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The visit reflects the company’s strategy to expand its presence in Vietnam’s growing power infrastructure market, driven by economic growth and the rise of data centers.
Several media outlets reported that Koo visited Hanoi ahead of his appearance at the “ELECS VIETNAM 2025” exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City.
On his first official day, he toured LS Electric’s local facilities and held talks with EVN chairman Dang Hoang An to review ongoing projects and share the company’s vision.
During the meeting, Koo outlined LS Electric’s focus on stabilizing and improving power systems through digital innovation, smart grid solutions, and AI-driven technologies.
He also highlighted plans to develop HVDC, BESS, and advanced switchgear, while noting partnerships in emerging areas such as microgrid trading, data centers, and small modular reactors (SMRs).
EVN chairman An praised LS Electric as a key partner in modernizing Vietnam’s power infrastructure. He emphasized EVN’s commitment to renewable energy, BESS, and smart grid initiatives under Vietnam’s eighth national power development plan (PDP8).
An expressed interest in leveraging LS Electric’s global expertise to transfer technology, strengthen local production, and achieve Vietnam’s strategic energy goals.
EVN, Vietnam’s largest power utility, has been working with LS Group since 2006, when the two sides launched a commercial high-voltage switchgear project.
LS Electric entered Vietnam in the mid-1990s, opening a Hanoi plant in 1997 and completing a major relocation in 2023 to increase annual production capacity from $25 million to $40 million.
LS Electric currently holds over 40% of the local low-voltage equipment market, maintaining its top position since 2013.
The company plans to deepen its partnership with EVN and further expand its footprint in Vietnam’s fast-growing energy sector.
