Samsung Electronics is testing optical clear adhesive (OCA) films from Chinese materials maker Sidike (斯迪克, SDK), signaling a potential move to diversify its supply chain for smartphone components.
According to a disclosure on July 7 posted on Hudongyi, the investor relations platform of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Sidike said its OCA products are currently undergoing sample testing and evaluation by Samsung. “Mass production has not yet begun,” the company stated, adding that it will continue upgrading its technology and monitoring customer needs to seek more opportunities for collaboration.
Sidike did not name the specific business division at Samsung, but industry observers believe the tests involve the company’s MX (Mobile eXperience) division, which oversees smartphones. OCA is typically supplied to display panel manufacturers, who then ship completed panels to device makers like Samsung. Sidike, however, appears to be targeting direct supply to Samsung. As the products are still in the testing stage, the company said future supply decisions remain subject to evaluation.
OCA is a transparent adhesive film used to bond display panels with touch sensors and cover glass. It is critical for high‑performance displays used in smartphones, tablets, laptops, TVs, and automotive screens, requiring exceptional clarity, adhesion, and flexibility.
Sidike’s OCA products are regarded as high‑quality materials well‑suited for standard LCD and touchscreen modules, with strong performance in light transmission, haze, and durability. However, they are not considered as advanced as the premium OCA films currently used in Samsung’s foldable smartphones, which are still supplied by Samsung SDI.
If adopted, the partnership could help Samsung enhance supply chain resilience and broaden its sourcing options, while providing Sidike with a foothold in the global smartphone market. Industry analysts say the collaboration aligns with Samsung’s efforts to expand its supplier base and China’s push to strengthen its presence in advanced materials markets.
Founded in 2006 in Jiangsu, China, SDK specializes in functional films and adhesives for cutting‑edge electronics, including smartphones and automotive displays. The company holds more than 700 patents and operates cleanroom manufacturing facilities as it seeks to grow its global customer base.
