Samsung Electronics expanded its premium smartphone lineup on July 22 with the launch of the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold8, the new flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip8, as the company deepened its push into artificial intelligence-powered devices and a broader connected ecosystem.
The foldable lineup was unveiled at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London, where the company also introduced the Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and previewed new AI-powered smart glasses, underscoring its strategy to make Galaxy AI available across a growing range of devices.
“AI is increasingly becoming part of the infrastructure of everyday life,” TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, said during the event. “Its value comes from helping more people, which is why we plan to bring Galaxy AI to 80 million devices by the end of this year.”
Samsung’s new foldables are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and feature the company’s latest generation of agentic AI capabilities.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 adopts a wider cover display than its predecessor, giving the device a more conventional smartphone form factor while maintaining a large screen optimized for multitasking, streaming and gaming when unfolded.
The device measures 0.38 inch thick when folded and 0.18 inch when opened, while weighing 7.1 ounces, making it Samsung’s lightest Fold smartphone to date. It features a 50-megapixel dual-camera system and a titanium-reinforced hinge designed to improve durability and reduce visible display creases.
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, a new flagship model aimed at premium users. The device features an 8-inch main display, a 6.5-inch cover display, measures 0.16 inch thick when unfolded and weighs 7.6 ounces.
The Fold8 Ultra is equipped with a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera—the first on Samsung’s Fold series—and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. Samsung said the device supports 8K video recording, enhanced Nightography imaging and AI-powered multitasking optimized for its larger display.
The Fold8 Ultra includes a 5,000mAh battery with 45-watt fast charging, while both Fold models incorporate Samsung’s new Flex Titanium construction to improve structural rigidity.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip8 weighs 6.3 ounces and measures 0.24 inch thick when unfolded, making it the thinnest and lightest Flip device the company has introduced. Its redesigned FlexWindow cover display serves as an AI-focused interface, allowing users to access information and complete tasks without opening the phone.
The company also expanded its agentic AI platform, first introduced with the Galaxy S26 series, across the entire foldable lineup.
Developed in partnership with Google, Gemini Intelligence can understand both on-screen content and user context, enabling it to perform multi-step actions across more than 40 apps, including restaurant reservations, food delivery, shopping and calendar management. Samsung also enhanced personalized AI features such as Now Brief and Now Nudge.
Beyond smartphones, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, adding new health-monitoring features including cardiovascular health scores, aerobic-load tracking and personalized fitness guidance. Battery life has been extended by 20% on the Watch9 and 35% on the Watch Ultra2 compared with previous models.
The company also showcased two versions of its upcoming Intelligent Eyewear, developed with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Built on Google’s Android XR platform, the smart glasses support AI interactions through voice commands, gestures and visual recognition, with a commercial launch planned later this year.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts at $2,099. The Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at $1,199. Samsung said the new devices will begin shipping globally on August 7, with preorders opening in South Korea on July 28 and running through August 3.
