Kia’s high-performance electric vehicle, the EV6 GT, has proven its speed in drag races against Ferrari’s Purosangue, winning four out of five races. The Italian supercar, powered by a 725-horsepower V12 engine, was outpaced by the EV6 GT, highlighting the performance capabilities of electric vehicles.
According to online automotive platform Carwow, the EV6 GT took victory in four of five quarter-mile straight-line races against the Purosangue.
The EV6 GT’s success is attributed to its 609-horsepower electric powertrain and instant torque delivery. The immediate and linear torque characteristic of electric vehicles gave it a decisive advantage at the start of the race. Despite being heavier than the Purosangue, the EV6 GT leveraged its powerful motors and electronic all-wheel-drive system to surge ahead.
Ferrari’s Purosangue showcased the allure of its high-revving V12, narrowing the gap in the latter part of the race, but it was unable to overtake the EV6 GT at the finish line. The only race the EV6 GT lost occurred under artificial constraints, such as manual mode engagement.
Analysts say the results demonstrate that high-performance acceleration is achievable without the price tag of a supercar. The EV6 GT also offers a five-seat cabin and substantial driving range, combining performance and practicality.
Matt Watson of Carwow noted, “Electric vehicles have evolved beyond just being eco-friendly—they are now high-performance contenders. The EV6 GT is a flagship of Kia’s electrification strategy and a symbolic model enhancing the brand’s global image.”
