Hyundai Motor Company is accelerating its growth in the German electric vehicle (EV) market. The INSTER has experienced strong demand since its launch, reaching 70% of its annual sales target within just four months.
According to Hyundai Motor Germany on May 29, a total of 2,723 INSTER units were sold in Germany between January and April this year. This figure represents 70% of the company’s annual sales goal for the model, demonstrating its strong market potential and early success.
The INSTER has gained popularity in Germany thanks to its competitive pricing, spacious interior, and advanced technology. In April, the model was recognized as the 2025 World Urban Car of the Year at the prestigious 2025 World Car Awards, highlighting its product excellence.
The INSTER is available in two versions: the Inspiration model, equipped with a 49kWh battery, and the Premium model, with a 42kWh battery. The Inspiration model features 15-inch wheels and offers a certified driving range of 315 km per charge, based on South Korea’s industrial standards. It also supports 120kW fast charging, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes — ideal for city driving.
Thanks to the INSTER’s performance, Hyundai’s total battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in Germany reached 6,974 units from January to April, a 45% increase year-over-year. During the same period, BEVs accounted for 27% of Hyundai’s total vehicle registrations, up 10 percentage points from the previous year — significantly higher than the national EV market average of around 17%. Hyundai now ranks third in BEV market share among all imported brands in Germany.
Hyundai also reported a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. From January to April, the company’s average CO₂ emissions in Germany fell to 90.5g/km, a decrease of approximately 21% compared to the same period last year.
Looking ahead, Hyundai aims to further expand its EV sales in the second half of the year, building on the INSTER’s momentum. The company plans to launch its flagship electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, in the third quarter (July–September), followed by the IONIQ 6 electric sedan and the second-generation NEXO hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. However, the release date for the new NEXO remains unconfirmed as it is still undergoing homologation procedures in Germany.
A Hyundai representative stated, “Hyundai is delivering meaningful results in the European EV market through years of experience in electrification and a strategic product lineup. We will continue to strengthen our leadership in the eco-friendly vehicle segment with new electric and hydrogen-powered models, including the INSTER.”
