Hanwha Aerospace, a leading South Korean defense contractor, has partnered with Poland’s private defense firm WB Group to establish a joint production facility for precision-guided missiles.
The companies are evaluating potential sites in western and southwestern Poland-regions considered lower in military risk-where they plan to manufacture components for the Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system as well as other types of ammunition.
The new facility is expected to play a central role in Poland’s growing defense industry and serve as a strategic anchor for the “Buy European” initiative.
Several media outlets reported on May 20 that Remigiusz Wilk, communications director at WB Group, shared the plans during the “Defence24 Days” conference held in Warsaw on May 7.
He stated that the joint venture to produce ammunition for the Homar-K system is proceeding smoothly.
Wilk noted that the facility will likely be located near existing military infrastructure and major transportation routes, with production set to include the CGR-080 guided rocket, which has a range of approximately 49.7 mi. He also hinted at broader production beyond a single munition type.
Local outlets expect the facility to manufacture not only missile components but also transport and launch containers. Some reports speculate that over 100 parts could eventually be produced locally.
Wilk emphasized that the project is being developed with strong support from the Polish government and armed forces.
He described it as the first military-industrial facility to be built in Poland since 1989, highlighting its potential to create jobs and boost regional tax revenue.
“This is not simply about transferring Korean technology to Poland,” he said. “This is a strategic collaboration that brings together the expertise of both countries.
It aims not only to strengthen Poland’s artillery capabilities but also to position both partners for future exports. It will cover not only new missile types but additional weapons systems as well.”
Since 2022, Hanwha Aerospace has signed contracts totaling $5.18 billion with the Polish Armament Agency to supply the CGR-080 and CTM-290 tactical missiles, the latter with a range of 180 mi.
The company has also entered into a term sheet agreement with WB Group to establish the joint venture, in which Hanwha Aerospace will hold a 51% stake and WB Group’s subsidiary WB Electronics (WBE) will hold the remaining 49%.
