The Indian Army has deployed the Vision 60 quadrupedal robot, developed by Ghost Robotics, to Myanmar following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that caused severe damage in the region. Having already proven its capabilities in defense and security operations, Ghost Robotics is now showcasing the robot’s potential in high-risk search and rescue missions—further solidifying its position in the expanding global robotics market.

According to industry sources on the 18th, Ghost Robotics announced via the business-oriented social media platform LinkedIn that the Indian Army had deployed the Vision 60 robot in the aftermath of the earthquake in Myanmar.

Ghost Robotics described the Vision 60—nicknamed “Robomule”—as a search and rescue (SAR) robot designed specifically for defense, disaster response, and life-saving operations.

The Vision 60 is a high-performance quadrupedal robot equipped for a variety of missions, including reconnaissance and rescue. Compared to competitors, it boasts longer battery life and can move with agility and stability across uneven terrain such as gravel and hills. It is also capable of rapid movement in water. When equipped with a 6.5mm sniper rifle integrated with optical devices and sensors, it can be used for armed operations as well.

In Myanmar’s earthquake-stricken regions, the Indian Army deployed the Vision 60 to transport equipment and collect intelligence—performing exploration tasks in hazardous areas that are inaccessible to human personnel.

Myanmar’s infrastructure, including roads, railways, bridges, and communication networks, has been severely damaged, making access by international aid teams nearly impossible. With airports also closed, the delivery of humanitarian supplies has become extremely difficult. In response, the Indian Army utilized the quadrupedal robot to assist in the search for missing persons.

Ghost Robotics, the company behind Vision 60, is a U.S.-based robotics firm founded in 2015 in Philadelphia. South Korea’s defense company LIG Nex1 acquired a 60% stake in Ghost Robotics for approximately $230 million. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move, laying the foundation for the further automation, digitization, and unmanned operation of future weapons systems.
