Samsung C&T’s trading division’s solar energy business, Samsung Renewable Energy, has ranked as the 7th largest solar developer in the United States.

According to Cleanview, an energy data portal in the U.S., on the 24th, Samsung Renewable Energy secured a total of three projects in the U.S., with a combined capacity of 700 MW, earning it the 7th spot.

Cleanview tracks thousands of solar projects and hundreds of solar developers’ activities every month. Based on this data, they select and announce the top 10 companies.

Samsung Renewable Energy was established in 2007 as the business development department of Samsung C&T. Since then, it has expanded in the energy technology industry and now has offices in Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, New Jersey, Toronto (Canada), and Sydney (Australia).

Samsung Renewable Energy utilizes its large capital and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) expertise to form partnerships with local developers and enter renewable energy projects. A notable example is the Ontario Wind and Solar Cluster in Canada.

The Ontario Wind and Solar Cluster, which was constructed over six years starting in 2013, has a total generation capacity of 1369 MW and is the largest renewable energy complex in Canada, recognized as a landmark in the North American renewable energy industry.

In 2022, Samsung Renewable Energy expanded into the Australian market. Last year, it also established a renewable energy subsidiary in Germany, continuing its efforts to develop environmentally friendly businesses in advanced markets.

The Australian solar business is expected to become profitable this year, and the German renewable subsidiary is expected to serve as a key base for European green energy projects.

Meanwhile, the top 10 companies in the ranking include Samsung Renewable Energy, as well as NextEra Energy (1st), Orsted (2nd), AES Clean Energy (3rd), TotalEnergies (4th), Hecate Energy (5th), EDP Renewables (6th), Quinbrook/Primary (8th), Lightsource BP (9th), and Clearway (10th).
