The Weeknd will return to South Korea in October for his first performances in the country in eight years, headlining two large-scale stadium concerts expected to draw a combined audience of about 100,000 fans.
Credit-card issuer Hyundai Card said May 11 that the Canadian pop star will perform on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at Goyang Stadium as part of its “Hyundai Card Super Concert 28” series.
The shows mark The Weeknd’s second visit to South Korea, following his 2018 performance under Hyundai Card’s Culture Project.
The upcoming concerts are expected to be among the country’s largest live music events in recent years, following stadium shows by Coldplay in 2017 and Bruno Mars in 2023.
Born in Canada, The Weeknd helped bring alternative R&B into the mainstream by blending rhythm and blues with hip-hop and electronic influences.
In 2023, he became the first artist on Spotify to surpass 100 million monthly listeners.
His breakout hit Blinding Lights has surpassed 5 billion streams on Spotify and was recognized by Guinness World Records.
He has also won multiple Grammy Awards, including best urban contemporary album for Beauty Behind the Madness.
