Samyang Foods’ hot chicken flavor ramen has officially crossed 8 billion packets sold since its launch in 2012, the Seoul-based company said, cementing the fiery instant noodles as one of South Korea’s most successful global food exports.
The milestone, achieved in the first half of this year, comes after the brand reached 5 billion in 2023 and 7 billion in 2024. The cumulative sales figure is now on par with the world’s population of 8.2 billion.
Nicknamed “fire noodles” for their extreme heat, Buldak has spread to more than 100 countries, from the United States and China to Southeast Asia and Europe. In the U.S., the noodles have become a viral hit, dominating Asian grocery aisles and fueling countless online spicy-food challenges.
Samyang has turned the brand into more than just noodles. Buldak-branded hot sauce, snacks, and ready-to-eat meals are now part of its lineup. The hot sauce alone is available in over 50 countries and has even made its way onto restaurant menus through corporate partnerships.
The brand has also leaned into pop culture. Buldak has appeared at U.S. fan events, the Coachella music festival, and in behind-the-scenes clips of K-pop idols indulging in the noodles.
Looking ahead, Samyang says it plans to push further into global markets with localized products and collaborations to keep the brand’s momentum burning hot.
