Lotte Mart has completed the installation of solar power systems at eight of its stores across Vietnam as part of its ongoing green growth initiative in the country. The retailer expects to save about $5.4 million in electricity costs and cut more than 3,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.

According to Lotte Mart Vietnam on November 12, the newly installed solar facilities will generate approximately 7,603 MWh of electricity each year. The company also plans to install energy storage systems (ESS) at seven additional stores — including locations in Namsaigon, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Can Tho, Nha Trang, and Vinh — by the first quarter of next year. Once completed, these systems are expected to further reduce electricity expenses by around $1.7 millionannually.

The ESS units will store excess solar energy during off-peak hours and release it during peak demand periods, helping to stabilize power use and lower operating costs. Southern Vietnam, known for its strong solar radiation, has become one of the most active regions for rooftop solar generation in the country.

Lotte Mart has been accelerating its transition toward renewable energy in Vietnam. Last year, the company’s Namsaigon store adopted an AI-based Building Energy Management System (AI BEMS), reducing annual energy consumption by up to 24%. Meanwhile, the Nha Trang Gold Coast branch became the first in Vietnam to introduce Honeywell’s next-generation Solstice refrigerant, which uses 5–16% less electricity than conventional systems.

Through these initiatives, Lotte Mart aims to enhance energy self-sufficiency and align with the Vietnamese government’s “Net Zero by 2050” policy. The retailer was recently named one of Vietnam’s Top 10 Green Growth Brands for 2025and says it plans to continue promoting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management and sustainable business practices across its operations in the country.
