South Korea’s LG CNS, the IT and digital transformation arm of LG Group, is emerging as part of a broader artificial intelligence network reaching into advanced defense systems, as one of its key partners joins a major European surveillance aircraft program.

Cohere, a Canadian AI startup that has been collaborating with LG CNS on enterprise artificial intelligence initiatives, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sweden’s Saab to support the GlobalEye airborne early warning and control platform. The agreement outlines a framework for applying AI to mission support, maintenance and data processing within complex aerospace environments, with initial pilot projects planned to test deployment.

The development highlights how LG CNS’s expanding partnerships in AI are connecting Korean technology capabilities to global defense ecosystems, even without direct participation in weapons manufacturing. The company has been strengthening its position in enterprise AI and cloud-based data systems, building relationships with overseas firms that increasingly intersect with security and aerospace applications.

Saab’s GlobalEye system, built on Bombardier Global 6000 and 6500 aircraft, integrates Erieye radar and a range of multi-domain sensors to detect and track threats across air, sea and land at long distances. The platform is regarded as one of the most advanced airborne early warning systems in operation, with Sweden, the United Arab Emirates and France among its users.

Saab Chief Executive Micael Johansson said collaboration with companies such as Cohere would help reinforce its global supply chain and technological competitiveness. Cohere co-founder Ivan Zhang said the partnership would enable faster data processing and more effective decision-making in complex operational environments.

The agreement reflects a broader shift in defense industries toward software-driven capabilities, where artificial intelligence and data analysis are becoming central to system performance. For LG CNS, the growing reach of its AI partnerships suggests a widening role for Korean technology firms in shaping the infrastructure behind next-generation defense platforms.
