Koo Kwang-mo is the current chairman of LG Group and the CEO of its holding company, LG Corporation.

Early Life and Education

Koo Kwang-mo was born on January 23, 1978, in Seoul, South Korea. He is the eldest son of Koo Bon-keun, chairman of Heesung Group, and the younger brother of the late Koo Bon-moo, former chairman of LG Group. Koo graduated from Seoul’s Youngdong High School before studying Computer Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the U.S. He later earned an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.

Career Beginnings

Koo started his career at LG Electronics, before exploring the startup sector to gain broader business experience. He returned to LG, taking key roles including Senior Executive at LG’s Synergy Team and Head of the Information Display division in the B2B business unit, where he contributed to LG’s global growth in display technologies.

In 2018, Koo became CEO and Chairman of LG Group. He has focused on driving innovation, particularly in OLED technology, AI, and green technologies. Koo’s leadership emphasizes execution and external collaborations to ensure LG stays ahead in competitive markets. Under his guidance, LG has strengthened its position in sectors like electronics, telecommunications, and chemical products.
