Top South Korean actor Jung Woo-sung has stepped back into the spotlight with a major new Disney+ series, just weeks after publicly addressing personal controversy surrounding his family life.
The star attended a press event in Seoul on December 15 for the streaming platform’s upcoming original drama “Made in Korea,” where he deflected questions about recent changes in his personal life, redirecting focus to his work.
“I understand the curiosity, but today is about ‘Made in Korea’ and our team,” Jung told reporters. “I hope you’ll understand that I won’t be speaking in detail about private matters here.”
Jung plays a relentless prosecutor in the six-part series, which is set in the politically and economically turbulent South Korea of the 1970s. He described his character as “stubborn” and “driven by his own professional code to the very end.”
The project marks a high-profile return for Jung, one of Korea’s most recognized leading men, following personal headlines in November when he confirmed he had fathered a child outside of marriage. He publicly addressed the situation at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, vowing to “accept all criticism” and fulfill his responsibilities as a father.
“Made in Korea” also features a strong ensemble cast including Hyun Bin—globally known from the hit drama “Crash Landing on You”—as well as Woo Do-hwan and Seo Eun-soo. Jung praised the series as “bold and provocative,” noting it blends fictional characters into real historical moments, offering “incredible freedom and creativity as an actor.”
The show is set to roll out in batches on Disney+, with the first two episodes premiering December 24, two more on December 31, and the final episodes arriving in early January.
For international audiences, Jung Woo-sung remains a defining figure in Korean cinema, with a career spanning decades and roles in films such as “The King” and “Steel Rain.” His return in a high-concept period drama—especially amid personal scrutiny—highlights both his enduring star power and the growing global appetite for Korean narrative storytelling.
