CJ Logistics, one of South Korea\u2019s leading logistics companies, announced Thursday that it has begun field trials of AI-powered humanoid robots, becoming the first logistics firm in the country to implement such technology in operational settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has partnered with robotics specialist Robotis to jointly develop \u201cPhysical AI,\u201d an artificial intelligence system that goes beyond digital environments to understand, perceive, and act in the real world. CJ Logistics is developing AI software tailored for logistics operations to enable these humanoid robots to perform physical tasks and collect data for continuous learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since mid-August, CJ Logistics has deployed humanoid robots at its Gunpo Fulfillment Center to perform packaging line tasks such as replenishing cushioning materials. The trials are designed to test both operational efficiency and workplace safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company plans to complete the field trials by the end of the year and gradually expand humanoid robot deployment to other major fulfillment centers starting in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis trial is a milestone toward commercializing humanoid robots for logistics,\u201d said Kim Jeong-hee, head of CJ Logistics\u2019 TES Logistics Technology Research Center. \u201cThe commercialization of humanoid robots is ultimately a data-driven endeavor. We aim to systematically collect and analyze operational data to lead a new logistics technology ecosystem centered on AI and humanoid robotics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CJ Logistics is also participating in South Korea\u2019s K-Humanoid Alliance, organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. The alliance brings together robotics companies, academic institutions, and experts to advance the domestic humanoid industry, and CJ Logistics will contribute as a key end-user by expanding practical applications of the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
