Hanwha Solutions’ QCELLS division (Hanwha QCELLS) has sold the development rights for its battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Texas to Nofar Energy’s U.S. subsidiary, Nofar USA. The company aims to continue collaborating on project development while securing opportunities for equipment supply and EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) services.

According to Hanwha QCELLS USA, the company recently transferred the rights for a BESS project with a capacity of 300MW/700MWh to Nofar USA. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The project involves the construction of BESS facilities in Texas, with a capacity of 230MW/460MWh in Reeves County and 120MW/240MWh in Frisco County. The project is currently undergoing the final steps to obtain grid connection approval. Construction is expected to begin as early as the end of the year, with commercial operations targeted for 2027.

Hanwha QCELLS USA secured stable revenue by selling the project rights at all stages of the EPC process. The company will continue to support project development and discuss future BESS supply and installation opportunities.

Hanwha QCELLS has successfully sold multiple project rights in the U.S. over the past year. In October 2023, the company sold a 142MW solar power project to Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the largest utility energy provider in Washington State. Additionally, the 200MW Ursa Solar project in Columbia County, Wisconsin, was transferred to Wisconsin-based utilities We Energies, WPS (Wisconsin Public Service Corporation), and MGE (Madison Gas and Electric Company).

Hanwha QCELLS is strengthening its presence in the U.S. market. Since establishing a 1.7GW solar module factory in Dalton, Georgia, in 2019, the company has continued expanding its production capacity. It is currently investing $2.4 billion to build the “Solar Hub,” an integrated manufacturing complex with an annual capacity of 8.4GW.

Kim Ik-Pyo, Head of Green Energy Solutions at Hanwha QCELLS, stated, “We are proud to collaborate with Nofar USA to create new growth opportunities in the U.S. market. This project will bring multiple benefits not only to the Texas power grid but also to the local communities where the BESS facilities will be built.”
