Samsung Electronics has renewed its strategic partnership with U.S. call security firm Hiya through 2028, extending a decade-long collaboration to enhance call protection for Galaxy smartphone users. The expanded alliance will build upon their existing Samsung Smart Call service, which utilizes Hiya’s AI technology to identify and block spam calls in real time without requiring additional apps. Galaxy users currently benefit from this integrated solution across more than 28 countries, with the service having blocked over 31 billion suspicious calls last year alone.

The upgraded partnership introduces several advanced features to combat increasingly sophisticated phone scams. Hiya’s adaptive AI technology continuously learns new fraud patterns to improve detection accuracy, while verified business caller IDs now display brand logos and call purposes to prevent spoofing attempts. For enterprises, the service offers free business number registration and brand protection tools to maintain call legitimacy and prevent false spam labeling. These enhancements come as global robocalls and voice phishing attempts continue rising, with U.S. consumers receiving 58 billion unwanted calls in 2023.

Samsung first integrated Hiya’s technology in 2016 with the Galaxy S7 series, gradually expanding the service to more devices and markets. The South Korean tech giant views call security as a critical component of its mobile ecosystem, particularly as phone-based fraud becomes more prevalent. “This extension reinforces our commitment to delivering best-in-class security solutions,” said Inkang Song, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s MX Division. “We’re creating safer mobile experiences for our global customer base.”

Originally developed as a caller ID feature by Whitepages before spinning off in 2016, Hiya has grown into a leading call security provider serving major carriers and device manufacturers. The Seattle-based company’s AI analyzes billions of call patterns monthly across 60 countries, with Samsung Galaxy devices representing its largest deployment. “Maintaining trust in voice communications has never been more critical,” said Hiya CEO Alex Algard. “Our expanded work with Samsung will help set new standards for call safety worldwide.”
